Travelling to Japan for education and work towards the end of 1980s and thereafter to UK, US and Asian countries opened avenues of several cultural spectrums, versatility of human nature, and the economics and technology driven transformation of societies.

The Dialectic of Enlightenment, the Debate Continues.

This book "Serenity of Thought" addresses the issue of the "dialectic of enlightenment". This is a philosophical problem which many philosophers, including Marx, have tried to tackle. Modernity brings material progress and conveniences, but at the cost of environment, community, ethics and a wholesome life. So the problem is, how do we retain the best of what is in modernity without sacrificing some of the goodness of our pre-modern past. The author, I think, believes that India, since it has always retained something of its traditions, is best located to tackle the dialectic of enlightenment.

This is a thought provoking book. For the persistent reader, it offers many rewards.
